Step 1 – 18/09/2015

I like the look of this Honey bee. Also, I have a bee hive just outside my workshop door so I see them buzzing around every day. It’s very relaxing until they attack.

This is the ivory I’ve chosen for this scrimshaw. It’s a 55g piece of mammoth ivory 9.5cm long x 5.5cm high.

As usual I stick the picture onto the ivory then cut out the detail with the scalpel and stippling machine.

Step 2 – 19/09/2015

Next, I’ll start adding some colour. First I’ll scrimshaw all the black areas, then the body. I’ll leave the fine details until the end. I stepped away from this Scrimshaw here for several years but finally came back and continued it in 2020.
