Scrimshaw Addiction

Geisha #5 Scrimshaw

This picture shows my final choice, #5 in a set of 5 – a Japanese Geisha in a woodblock print style. It was inspired by a friend David Adams (a fellow scrimshaw artist).

It will be scrimshawed on a piece of fossil Mammoth Ivory. The weight is 18grams, 4.5cm wide at the base and 8cm high.

Step 1 – 4/5/21

Here is the Ivory polished and ready to begin the scrimshaw.

Step 2 – 4/5/21

The picture is attached to the ivory ready for the outline to be cut out.

Step 3 – 5/5/21

This picture shows the outline cut out and the black oil paint applied.

Step 4 – 7/5/21

This picture shows the black sections finished, ready for me to add the colour.

Step 4 – 10/5/21

This picture shows the scrimshaw finished, ready to be mounted onto the base.

Step 5 – 10/5/21

I have decided to put all five Geisha Scrimshaws on the same base. I fashioned the base from Rosewood with a Mammoth Ivory nameplate.
