Giraffes at Sunset Scrimshaw

This is my next project – a tower of Giraffes. The Mammoth Ivory I’ve chosen weighs 85.6 grams and is 95mm wide by 80mm high. It looks quite discolored but should be OK. I’ll scrimshaw the outside curve, which I’m looking forward to as most scrimshaws I’ve done lately have been on the concave surface.

Base/Stand

I’ve decided to make the base from two pieces of Salmon Gum burl. It will be shaped and finished with a Mammoth Ivory nameplate.

Here’s the wood roughly cut into two pieces.
