In the Dark Tiger Scrimshaw
This is my next project, it’s a nice contrast between dark backgrounds with the tiger peeking through. This is a piece of Mammoth ivory that weighs 44 grams it measures 11.2mm x 65mm. I’ll scrimshaw the inside curve as it’s the best surface.
Step 1 – 26/07/19
Here is the Ivory polished and ready to begin the scrimshaw. It has some discoloration but should be fine when finished.
Step 2 – 26/07/19
This is the Ivory with the Tiger picture attached, next I’ll cut out the outline.
Step 3 – 26/07/19
This is the Ivory with the outline cut out and now I will fill in all the black parts.
Step 4 – 28/07/19
The dark parts and the right-hand side background have been filled in and now I will do the left background.
Step 5 – 01/08/19
This left background has taken a lot of time because of the detail, it looks mostly dark but there is a lot of detail that the camera hasn’t picked up.
Step 6 – 03/08/19
The tigers face has been added and the scrimshaw is now finished.
Base/Stand
This is the wood I have chosen – a piece of Furry Oak. I’m going to make it in two parts.
Step 1-
Here’s the wood cut roughly to shape.
Step 2-
Here’s the finished base, it just needs a nameplate.
The End.
